Power, dissent, revolt, usurpation, and war are themes that lie at the heart of the five or so Shakespearean history plays we will read. We will study Shakespeare’s version of the turbulent period known as the “Wars of the Roses” and assess how his representations respond to Shakespeare’s moment.
