Ignatian Heritage and Jesuit Mission
As a Jesuit university, John Carroll draws upon the intellectual resources and educational experience of the Society of Jesus, which has operated colleges and universities for more than four centuries. Jesuits on the faculty and in the administration help impart the particular character and value of Jesuit education that make John Carroll University a unique institution in its region. They are joined by an increasing number of faculty and staff who are trained as companions in mission and Province Ignatian Educators of Distinction. In 2021, Alan M. Miciak, Ph.D. took office as the University’s twenty-sixth president and has been entrusted by the Board of Directors with preserving this Ignatian heritage and advancing our Jesuit Mission. The President is assisted in this task by the Office of University Mission and Identity and by the Rector of the local Jesuit community. A dedicated faculty and staff share the educational enterprise of service to its students and the community.
