LINK: MODERN LITERATURE OF THE SUPERNATURAL

This course explores the rhetorical hallmarks of modern expressions of the supernatural, focusing on the shift to the supernatural as a psychological or symbolic manifestation of individual personality, a process that we can trace in earnest with post-Enlightenment literature and that continues in contemporary literature, film, and internet content. Rhetorical continuities between manifestations of the modern supernatural, such as creepypastas and urban legends, to pre-modern conceptions of the supernatural will also be investigated. Prerequisite: EN 121 or EN 1210 or EN 125 or EN 1250. Corequisite: HS 2223. Offered: Spring.
