Course Description

Explores how the human body has been scientifically constructed with respect to race, sex, and gender over time, which served to create and justify patterns of social inequality. Examines how bodies were differentially exposed to pathogens, dissected for education, and housed in institutions such as asylums and hospitals. Through critical inquiry into science and American society, students will identify the biases and the promises of science as applied to human subjects.
