Course Description
Examines theories explaining why wrongful convictions occur, including discussions of witness identification, false confessions, perjured testimony from informants, ineffective counsel, and police and prosecutorial misconduct. Critically explores the phenomenon with an emphasis on systematic bias and the intersection of race, gender, class, age, and mental disability. Addresses consequences of wrongful conviction and proposed remedies. Formerly PO 213.
