Course Description
Designed to assist the counseling student in understanding psychological disorders, as conceptualized in the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders and other nosologies. Includes a thorough review of the major categories of psychopathology, which will be contextualized by a discussion of the role of historical context and cultural differences in assessing individual behavior. Focuses on conducting mental-status examinations and on the framework for identifying symptomatology, etiology, and dynamics of mental and emotional disorders, issues of diversity, case conceptualization, assessment, diagnosis, ethical and legal considerations. Prerequisite: CG 500 and CG 562.
