Prerequisites: CH 221 and CH 223. Corequisite: CH 224Three hours of lecture per week. Theoretical and descriptive treatment of the structure and reactions of acylic and cyclic aliphatic and aromatic organic compounds. Naming of organic molecules; reactions and preparations of alcohol, diene, aromatic, amine and carbonyl-containing functional groups; carbanion theory; writing mechanisms; nucleophilic substitution, elimination, electrophilic addition, oxidation and nucleophilic displacement, elimination reactions, carbonyl chemistry; and spectroscopic analysis.
