Course Description
Introduction to newsgathering and news writing for print, broadcast, online and social media. Uses the Mac lab for classes, with assignments on- and off-campus to build practical experience in verification, interviewing, reporting on events and issues, and writing news and features. Brief introductions to journalism history, current ethical and practical issues, and the legal hazards faced by journalists. Some assignments offer students a choice to cover events and issues in their area of interest, such as sports, health, environment, politics, or the performing arts.
