Course Description

Examines the relationships among sex, gender, health, and modern medicine. We will study topics such as how medical systems and health practices organize and create gender, medicalization and its critiques, the intersection of biological and social models, and sexual differentiation. There will also be a significant focus on health technologies, exploring the ways in which health technologies organize, create, and discipline human bodies. Gender will be discussed in relation to its intersection with a range of other health inequalities, including racialized identity, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and age.
