Course Description
Emergence of Christianity into the Greco-Roman world during the first six centuries. Key topics include: establishment of Trinitarian theology and Christology; relations of Church and State; roles of women; origins of monasticism; interaction with pagan culture; establishment of ecclesiastical structures; early Christian art; major figures (Constantine, Athanasius, Augustine); and the Church’s growing self-understanding. Does not satisfy the Jesuit Heritage TRS Core requirement. Prerequisites: TRS Majors, TRS Minors, Graduate Students (MA or Certificate), or those with permission from Department Chair.
