Students earning the bachelor of arts in Teaching Mathematics will develop a foundational understanding of Calculus, Algebra, and Real Analysis along with Education courses that lead to licensure to teach mathematics at the Adolescent to Young Adult level.  Students who plan to teach AYA mathematics and desire a deeper preparation in mathematics may choose to earn the bachelor of science degree in Mathematics while earning a second major in Education.

In order to remain in the program, students who have declared the major in Teaching Mathematics must maintain satisfactory progress toward completion of the major by completing MT 136 Calculus II with a Calculus grade point average of at least 2.5 by the end of the fall semester of the second year, and completing MT 301 Methods in Pure Mathematics with a grade of C- or better by the end of the second year.  They must also meet the standards for satisfactory progress for the major in Education.

Students may not earn both the major in Teaching Mathematics and the major in Mathematics.
